The position will be pivotal in helping the university organize and design its early acquisitions of cluster computers, suites of university-licensed compilers, tools, software, and associated staffing. The position will also actively manage the High Performance Computer (HPC) user group and assist and aid all users to assess their computing needs and aid them in utilizing university's HPC resources to their benefit. The position will aid faculty in setting up their individual and group computing abilities. Duties and Responsibilities: Organize and design the University early acquisitions of cluster computers, suites of university-licensed compilers, tools, software, and associated staffing System administration and service ownership of HPC clusters and infrastructure to include specialized servers, storage, and networking. Monitor HPC infrastructure health and utilization and is responsible for both proactively and reactively addressing operational issues. Execute / Organize regular system maintenance and enhancement activities to include diagnosing and solving various system operational problems and automating common processes when possible. Develop and manage service level agreements for the HPC services, and implements operational procedures including web-based access to HPC resources. Aiding faculty in setting up their individual and group computing abilities To facilitate a robust HPC user community from a variety of disciplines Coordinate with the HPC user community to establish service roadmap recommendations and service enhancements. Establishes and manages training materials for services desk, local support partners and the HPC user community; delivery of training will be coordinated with training and development groups. Collects, analyzes, and reports usage data to relevant parties including the HPC user communities and interested administrators. Manages service related vendor relationships and contracts. Provides technical and functional supervision over other team members. Education: The individual ideally should be educated to doctoral degree level (PhD) in computer science or engineering related discipline with strong background in parallel computing. However, exceptional candidates without a PhD but extensive experience in high performance computer support will be considered. Experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience (which could include a PhD) in parallel computing and relevant area with Extensive experience of Linux system administration Skill in identifying computational, memory, and scalability bottlenecks A good understanding of computer architecture/hardware (particularly parallel) as it relates to both high level HPC design and low-level optimization. Advanced Shell Scripting, Bash, Python, Perl, C++,Java, Linux Packaging, YUM Performance Tuning Experience in Linux Kernel Modules Experience of specifying, purchasing and commissioning new computer hardware and software. Experience of implementing and operating computer configuration management systems. Knowledge of current computing technologies and best practices. Familiarity with a variety of HPC subject area concepts and practices in the context of Academic Research. Understanding of Research Compliance Requirements IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS) is desirable but additional training can be given Technical Skills: Ability to work both independently and as part of a distributed team. Strong ability to plan, manage and deliver projects. Strong Analytical and Troubleshooting Skills Experience of building and maintaining a good network of contacts. Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills in English To be a team player, with good communication skills at all.
